Former President John Dramani Mahama has opined that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not relent on its quest in seeking a free and fair election during the 2024 polls.
According to him, the NDC will be vigilant and take necessary steps to prevent undesired outcomes.
Speaking on Techiman-based Akina FM’s on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, as part of his thank-you tour, he intimated the party’s grim determination in ensuring a free and fair election comes as a result of the outcomes of the 2020 general elections.
The Former President in his submission claimed that the NDC was cheated out of victory despite the massive support by the Ghanaian populace.
Therefore the rank and file of NDC will take every appropriate measure in ensuring that the 2020 electoral anomalies are not repeated in subsequent general elections.
“We will do everything to ensure that the election is free and fair. We will not cheat the NPP and we don’t expect anyone to cheat us either. Let the elections be peaceful and fair.”
For him, the 2020 general election has been an eye-opener and has taught the NDC that elections can only be won at the polling stations.
“We were clearly robbed but we accepted the verdict for the sake of peace, but I want to state here that the next elections would be won or lost at the polling station. so at the polling station, it will be do or die. I am not saying all die be die. I’m saying it will be do or die because the right thing must be done,” he stated
The 2020 Presidential candidate further accused the incumbent government of infiltrating security service with individuals from Delta forces and invisible forces to intimidate members of the NDC in several Constituencies.
According to him, security personnel deployed to ensure peaceful elections did otherwise but prayed that subsequent elections in the country will be peaceful.
“You see some Military and police officers and ask whether these are indeed officers. They wear earrings and all sorts of things and you can’t tell whether this is a police officer or a soldier. Look at what happened at Techiman South the way they shot at the crowd, it was intended to kill people. We hope that in the next elections we won’t see scenes like that again.
