The Sawla Police in the Savannah Region Sunday dawn shot two suspected armed robbers dead, while others escaped during a shootout with Police at Kalba.
A statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said following a distress call about a robbery attack at Weichao, the Police in partnership with some community members, pursued the suspects who were on motorbikes.
It said the suspects engaged the Police in a shootout leading to the death of the two suspects.
The statement, said, however, others managed to escape through the bushes.
It said inspection carried on the bodies revealed a COVID-19 vaccinated card bearing the name Yussif Bolii, aged 20, but the other one was yet to be identified.
The statement said meanwhile, the two bodies had been conveyed to the Damongo Hospital morgue for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
It said the Sawla Police Command was in partnership with the chiefs and community members to get the remaining suspects who were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds arrested.
The statement applauded the collaborative efforts between the Sawla Police Command and the community members.
It assured the people of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba that adequate security measures were being put in place to protect them from notorious armed robbers.
